Tony Knowles Coastal Trail Erosion Reroute

Client: Municipality of Anchorage, Parks & Recreation Department

PTS Services:

  • Survey

  • Civil Engineering

PTS is assisting the Municipality of Anchorage, Parks & Recreation Department with developing a design to reroute a portion of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail at Point Woronzof. Originally constructed in the 1980s, years of constant erosion of the bluff along Cook Inlet have gradually crept towards the trail and has already claimed a popular trail overlook.

PTS has provided a survey of the Point Woronzof area, identified reroute options, and developed a civil engineering design for the reroute. PTS will be continuing to support Parks & Recreation through permitting efforts with the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Construction is expected to occur in 2024.
